Personal Development Can Help You To Make The Most Out Of ...

Self-help principles are designed to help you achieve all of your greatest dreams and turn you into a complete person. By using self-help techniques in your daily life you will slowly better yourself and at the same time learn to feel and experience more joy in your life. This article contains self-help tips you can use to better yourself.

Taking responsibility for your decisions and being truthful with yourself is such an important part in your quest to becoming a better person. After all, if you can?t be honest with yourself, you will not be able to move forward successfully. You are in control of the person you were meant to be, so take control of your situation and you are one step closer to being that person.

We have all certainly gained a lot through academic study towards our personal development. But we should look beyond academia also. Any experience that vitally interests us, any skill that challenges us will bring about personal development. Above all, think about things. Observe closely. You will be rewarded with new capacities.

Learn to recognize the signs your body is giving you. This is a great way to develop on a personal level. If you are not paying attention or ignoring signals such as hunger, thirst, tired feelings, and sleepiness you are depriving yourself of things you may need.

While personal development is a very intimate process, remember that no man is an island. Working on your teamwork skills will only lead to great things since large problems are best tackled by many people. You might find yourself with stellar references or even a stronger tie to your community at large.

While there are many circumstances we cannot avoid in our day to day life, remember that your personal responsibility to protect yourself is absolutely a part of this. Try to make sure your experiences are positive by setting yourself up for success. Your happiness is your personal responsibility, so do yourself a favor and make sure your day will be easy to work through!

Use positive visualization as part of your every day life. Picture yourself achieving the goals you want. Picture your life as being better than it is today. Doing this regularly sets your mind on a course for positive results. Positive visualization is scientifically proven to work for most individuals.

You can contribute to a more loving and fulfilling relationship with your partner by making an effort to clearly state your specific needs and expectations as they relate to showing appreciation for one another. Yes, you love your partner dearly, but you do not share the same brain. He or she should not have to guess when it comes to your wants and needs. In fact, this concept can be readily applied to your work and family relationships as well.

On days that you don?t feel motivated start you task anyways. Sometimes things seem harder when you are just sitting around dwelling on them. Tell yourself that you will work towards your goal for at least fifteen minutes, then if you still don?t feel like working on it you can quit. In most cases, once you get started you won?t want to stop.

Make a list of your personal development goals and the ways that you plan to make changes in your life. It is always easier to achieve things when you write them down for yourself. Additionally, being sure that you know the steps you will need to take, will also increase you likelihood of success.

If you have a hard time focusing, you need to learn how to do it. Shut out distractions. These distractions may be hard to pinpoint if you are used to living a life with a multitude of noises. Something as simple as fixing a faulty light in your office can help you focus. Learn to do one thing at a time as well, multitasking is over-rated.

Know your weaknesses. Don?t focus on them, but be sure that you know what you need to work on so that you can start doing it. Be aware of what you need to get better at, so that you are always working toward becoming the best person you can be.

Listen to your inner-self to have fewer regrets as you go through life. Personal development cannot happen if you ignore what your gut is telling you or subvert a voice inside you that is crying out. Following your heart is the only true way to personal development and greater fulfillment.

One great way to make sure you are at peace and live a full and healthy life is through daily devotion. Many many people would testify that when you start your day in God?s word and in prayer, you have a much better day than you would?ve had without having done that. Try it, and see just how important and beneficial it is.

One of the best things you can do to help yourself develop as a person is to read. There are many philosophy books available that can help you ease your mind. Taking the ideas of philosophers and applying them to your own life, can help you see life from a different prospective.

Start exercising as a means to improve your personal development. Exercise not only improves the quality of your health and overall looks, it is a great teacher of patients and stamina. Through hard work, you can physically see the results of all your sacrifices and it will motivate you to do the same in other aspects of your life.

Generalizations are the enemy of your self-improvement and success. Examine your thought processes to see what negative, general beliefs you hold about yourself. If you say in your mind that you ?always fail,? etc., this is not accurate. Even if it was only one time, you have succeeded in the past! Remind yourself that the future is bright and self-improvement is possible.

Before you can take a single step on your journey to self-improvement and success, you must accept responsibility. You,and you alone, are the one to blame for your failures, and you, you alone, are the one who can make necessary changes to achieve success. You need to give yourself a bit of tough love. Remind yourself that no one is going to hand you your perfect life on a silver platter. With that in mind, pursue your dreams and take credit for your successes!

As mentioned at the start of this article, using the SMART concept of specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bound oriented goals, in addition to the tips and advice provided in this article, you will be able to be more effective and efficient in accomplishing your goals on a personal and career level.

Kristen Stewart came through with more than juicy scoop about her role in "Snow White and the Huntsman" when she sat down with MTV News on Tuesday night (May 29) as part of Sneak Peek Week: KStew also brought an exclusive clip from the movies, which opens this Friday.

In the teaser, Snow White (Stewart) and the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) are seen hanging upside down from a tree after being captured by dwarves. To escape, the Huntsman offers them gold, but when the dwarves refuse, Snow assumes it's because they have allegiances to Queen Ravenna. In fact, one of the dwarves says they "lost everything when the King died" thanks to the evil queen's ways.

The king, it is revealed, was Snow's dad. And it turns out she, too, lost it all when the Queen took over power. Another dwarf, who can "see into" Snow's light, tells her she "is destined to bring an end to the darkness." What happens next will be revealed when the film opens on June 1.

In addition to Stewart and Hemsworth, the film also stars Charlize Theron as the queen and Prince Charming himself, Sam Claflin, who joined Stewart for MTV's sit-down. The flick is directed by Rupert Sanders.

"SWATH" kicked off our MTV Sneak Peek Week festivities, which will also include chats with the casts of "That's My Boy" (Wednesday), "Magic Mike" (Thursday) and "Rock of Ages" (Friday), all week on MTV and MTV.com. Check back every night at 11 p.m. ET as Josh Horowitz conducts Q&A sessions with the actors live from the 5 Towers on Universal CityWalk. Fans can get in on the action on Twitter using the hash tag #MTVSneak.

Stewart will be on hand at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards this Sunday, where she'll not only be a presenter but also vie for Best Kiss after being nominated for her smooch with Robert Pattinson in "Breaking Dawn - Part 1." (The film is up for Movie of the Year.)

Russell Brand is set to host the MTV Movie Awards with performances by Fun., Wiz Khalifa, the Black Keys and house DJ Martin Solveig. It all goes down at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Sunday, June 3!

Russia blames 'both sides' for Syria massacre

Fighting continues as UN peace broker Kofi Annan arrives in Damascus. NBC's Richard Engel reports.

By msnbc.com news services

Updated at 3:34 p.m. ET: MOSCOW -- Russia further backed away from its support of Syrian President Bashar Assad on Monday, saying his government bears the main responsibility for the violence in the country and calling for a full investigation into its role in the deaths of more than 100 civilians in Houla.?

"Both sides have obviously had a hand in the deaths of innocent people, including several dozen women and children. This area is controlled by the rebels, but it is also surrounded by government troops," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after talks in Moscow with visiting British Foreign Secretary William Hague.?

Meanwhile, international mediator Kofi Annan, who arrived in Damascus Monday for talks with senior Syrian officials, said he was horrified by the killings in Houla and urged the Syrian government to take bold steps to show it was serious about reaching a peaceful solution to the country's crisis.

Lavrov spoke a day after Russia agreed to join the rest of the U.N. Security Council in blaming the Syrian government for attacking residential areas in Houla, a collection of villages near the central city of Homs. The council, however, avoided saying who was responsible for the massacre of at least 108 men, women and children.?

Opposition activists said Assad's forces killed at least 41 people in an artillery assault on the city of Hama shortly after the U.N. Security Council condemned Friday's massacre in nearby Houla. The authorities in Damascus issued a denial that troops played any role at Houla, rejecting the U.N. version of events.

Lavrov said there was no doubt that government forces had used artillery and tanks to shell Houla, but he noted that many of the dead appeared to have been shot at close range or tortured.?"The guilt has to be determined objectively," he said. "No one is saying that the government is not guilty, and no one is saying that the armed militants are not guilty."?

Visiting British Foreign Minister William Hague (L) looks at Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov during their meeting on Syria in Moscow on Monday.

But Lavrov did issue?some of Russia's harshest criticism of Assad to date, saying the Syrian ?government "bears the main responsibility for what is going on" because it is failing to provide for the security of Syrian citizens. He hedged the criticism by claiming that Syria's government is facing an increased threat from terrorists, whose bombings have the "clear signature of al-Qaida."?

Alexei Malashenko, a Middle East expert with the Carnegie Moscow Center, said Russia can no longer defend Assad's government and may be warning him that he needs to change his approach.?

"Bashar Assad is driving himself and Russia into a corner," Malashenko said. "If this goes on, Russia will have no other option" but to pull its support. "Bashar has definitely gotten the sense that he may lose Russia's sympathy and he may step back a bit."?

Syria blamed terrorists for the Sunday massacre of more than 100 people, including children. Washington isn't buying it. NBC's Richard Engel reports.

Lavrov and Hague both called for greater efforts to implement special envoy Annan's six-point peace plan, which calls on both sides to respect a cease-fire.?

Speaking shortly after arriving in Damascus, Annan said he expected to have "serious and frank discussions" with Assad. The two men are due to meet on Tuesday, according to the Syrian Foreign Ministry.

Clinton: Syria leader's 'rule by murder' must end?

Annan said the massacre in Houla was "an appalling crime, and the (U.N.) Security Council has rightly condemned it." Western countries have blamed Assad's forces for the killings, a charge Damascus denies.

"I urge the (Syrian) government to take bold steps to signal that it is serious in its intention to resolve this crisis peacefully, and for everyone involved to help create the right context for a credible political process," Annan told reporters on his arrival in Damascus.?

A resident of Houla shows a body to a UN observer as they stand near the bodies of people whom anti-government protesters say were killed by government security forces on Friday.

"It's right, as Sergey Lavrov has just done, to call on all parties to cease violence, and we are not arguing that all violence in Syria is the responsibility of the Assad regime, although it has the primary responsibility for such violence," Hague said.?

Lavrov added that "we don't support the Syrian government, we support Kofi Annan's plan."?

The Russian envoy called for everyone in the international community to exert more pressure on both sides to implement Annan's plan, saying it was not clear from talks with opposition members that they were getting the message that the plan had full international support.

He said talk about the need for Assad to step down cast doubt on the West's commitment to the Annan plan and encouraged the opposition to keep up the fight.?

Hague, however, confirmed that Britain still believes Assad should stand aside.?

"But the important thing is that the Annan plan is pursued in whatever way it can be pursued," he said. "The alternatives are the Annan plan or ever-increasing chaos in Syria, and a descent closer and closer to all-out civil war and collapse."?

'Boiling point': On Lebanon's Syria Street, a civil war brews

China on Monday also condemned the killings of civilians in Houla and called for an end to the violence, but gave no indication it was rethinking its strategy toward the fighting in Syria.?

NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports from war-torn Homs showing how parts of the city have been ravaged by fighting while others spared.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said that Beijing fully supports Annan's mediation efforts and the UN monitors.?

The protests against Assad began in March 2011 and turned into an uprising after his government responded with a violent crackdown on dissent. The U.N. estimated that at least 9,000 people were killed in the first year of the conflict, but hundreds more have been killed since then.?

Reuters and The Associated Press contributed to this report.?

16-year-old sets off buzz over 325-year-old physics

Jugend Forscht

Sixteen-year-old Shouryya Ray, a student from Dresden who was born in Calcutta, submitted a paper proposing analytical solutions to two problems in particle dynamics.

By Alan Boyle

A research paper that claims to fill in a gap in Isaac Newton's formulas for the physics of falling objects has drawn worldwide attention to a 16-year-old student in Germany, but physicists are reserving judgment until they've seen the proof.

The focus of the buzz is Shouryya Ray, an Indian-born student who won second prize this month in the math and informatics category for Germany's Jugend Forscht student science competition. Ray tackled a couple of longstanding puzzlers for physics students: How do you account for air resistance in calculating the trajectory of ball thrown out at an angle? And precisely how does a ball thrown against the wall rebound?

The first question relates to Newton's law of universal gravitation: In his Principia Mathematica, published in 1687, Newton laid out how a gravitational field would affect a thrown object ??but he didn't account for the effect of air resistance. Through the centuries, physicists have used numerical approximations to take drag into account, and when computers come into play, those approximations can be incredibly precise. But Ray said he wanted to come up with a set of formulas that could calculate the effect directly, even though his instructors said that had never been done.

"I asked myself: Why can't it work?" he told the German newspaper Die Welt.

That's what Ray tried to do in his prize-winning paper, titled "Analytical?Solution of Two?Fundamental?Unsolved?Problems of?Particle Dynamics" ("Analytische L?sung von zwei ungel?sten fundamentalen Partikeldynamikproblemen"). In addition to the falling-ball problem, Ray took on a puzzler of more recent vintage, having to do with the description of a particle's collision with a wall, as described by 19th-century theory. But it was the "kid-trumps-Newton" angle that really stirred up a buzz.

Die Welt's report came early in the game: The Daily Mail and?The Sunday Times of London picked up the story, adding to the sensation. The idea that a teenager could figure out something that Newton didn't ? particularly when the teen is an immigrant from Calcutta who says he's no genius ? is irresistible. But that just sparked more questions among inquiring minds in such online hangouts as?Physics Forum,?Slashdot?and Reddit: What exactly did Ray do? And were these problems really such mysteries to solve?

That's a challenge, because Ray's paper was a school project submitted for a contest, and thus not subject to the publication process and peer review that professional work typically goes through. For that reason, the experts are reluctant to weigh in.

"This story seems rather suspicious," Richard Fitzpatrick, a physicist at the University of Texas in Austin, told me in an email. "None of the news reports give any details of the calculation. None of the people who hailed Shouryya Ray as a genius are scientists, and none of?them give the impression that they have seen the calculation in question. It is impossible to gauge the scientific merit of the calculation until it is made public."

Syracuse University physicist Simon Catterall said in an email that calculating the trajectories of falling objects hadn't been seen as a particularly grand puzzle of physics. "The background given in the article seems genuine enough, so it may indeed be true, but I haven't heard anything about a new solution to a Newtonian problem on the grapevine," he told me.

Based on what's come out about the work so far, the consensus seems to be that Ray has done amazing work for his age ?and if he had to choose between his passion for science and his passion for soccer, he'd be well-advised to pick math and physics.?His paper putting forth an "analytical solution to two fundamental unsolved problems" may not be the breakthrough that some of the reports have made it out to be, but that doesn't take anything away from the teenager's achievement.

"What Ray has worked out, almost certainly independently, would definitely put him in the 99th percentile amongst his peers and maybe even more," one Redditor observed.

By the way, the first-place winner in the math and informatics category, Julius Kunze, wrote a paper on relativistic ray tracing. But that's a different story...?

U.K.: Landmark Case Could Bring Down the Legal System ? Queen ...

Landmark Case Could Stymie Legal System

If everyone began using this defence tomorrow, in all of the Commonwealth courts and in the United States, the entire legal system could be brought to its knees in a matter of weeks if not days.?

For those of you who have been following the John Anthony Hill (JAH) Case, it is great to be able to share that he was acquitted, on the 12th of May 2011, of the ridiculous and politically-motivated charge of attempting to ?pervert the course of justice?. For those of you less familiar with this landmark case, John Anthony Hill is the Producer of the documentary film ?7/7 Ripple Effect?. For more details about this extraordinary case and the trial itself, please visit the following links:-

http://terroronthetube.co.uk/2011/05/12/muaddib-acquitted/

7/7/ Ripple effect http://jforjustice.co.uk/77/

There are two very important precedents that were established with this case that need to be studied in detail. There was a preliminary argument presented to the court to challenge both the jurisdiction and the sovereignty of Elizabeth Battenberg/Mountbatten, which was based on two distinct points. The first point being she was knowingly, and with malice aforethought, coronated on a fake stone in 1953 and thus has never been lawfully crowned.

There are those who may wish to argue that this point is irrelevant, as Judge Jeffrey Vincent Pegden did at the trial, wrongly thinking the Coronation is just a ceremony because she has been pretending to be the monarch for over 58 years. In actual fact the Coronation is a binding oath and a contract, requiring the monarch?s signature. Which brings us to the second point.

At that Coronation ceremony, Elizabeth signed a binding contract, before God and the British people, that she would do her utmost to maintain The Laws of God. This she solemnly swore to do, with her hand placed on the Sovereign?s Bible, before kissing The Bible and signing the contract. Please note well that in The Law of God, found in the first five books of The Bible, man-made legislation is strictly prohibited.

People smile when they are frustrated, and the computer knows the difference

ScienceDaily (May 28, 2012) ? Do you smile when you're frustrated? Most people think they don't -- but they actually do, a new study from MIT has found. What's more, it turns out that computers programmed with the latest information from this research do a better job of differentiating smiles of delight and frustration than human observers do.

The research could pave the way for computers that better assess the emotional states of their users and respond accordingly. It could also help train those who have difficulty interpreting expressions, such as people with autism, to more accurately gauge the expressions they see.

"The goal is to help people with face-to-face communication," says Ehsan Hoque, a graduate student in the Affective Computing Group of MIT's Media Lab who is lead author of a paper just published in the IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing. Hoque's co-authors are Rosalind Picard, a professor of media arts and sciences, and Media Lab graduate student Daniel McDuff.

In experiments conducted at the Media Lab, people were first asked to act out expressions of delight or frustration, as webcams recorded their expressions. Then, they were either asked to fill out an online form designed to cause frustration or invited to watch a video designed to elicit a delighted response -- also while being recorded.

When asked to feign frustration, Hoque says, 90 percent of subjects did not smile. But when presented with a task that caused genuine frustration -- filling out a detailed online form, only to then find the information deleted after pressing the "submit" button -- 90 percent of them did smile, he says. Still images showed little difference between these frustrated smiles and the delighted smiles elicited by a video of a cute baby, but video analysis showed that the progression of the two kinds of smiles was quite different: Often, the happy smiles built up gradually, while frustrated smiles appeared quickly but faded fast.

In such experiments, researchers usually rely on acted expressions of emotion, Hoque says, which may provide misleading results. "The acted data was much easier to classify accurately" than the real responses, he says. But when trying to interpret images of real responses, people performed no better than chance, assessing these correctly only about 50 percent of the time.

Understanding the subtleties that reveal underlying emotions is a major goal of this research, Hoque says. "People with autism are taught that a smile means someone is happy," he says, but research shows that it's not that simple.

While people may not know exactly what cues they are responding to, timing does have a lot to do with how people interpret expressions, he says, For example, former British prime minister Gordon Brown was widely seen as having a phony smile, largely because of the unnatural timing of his grin, Hoque says. Similarly, a campaign commercial for former presidential candidate Herman Cain featured a smile that developed so slowly -- it took nine seconds to appear -- that it was widely parodied, including a spoof by comedian Stephen Colbert. "Getting the timing right is very crucial if you want to be perceived as sincere and genuine with your smiles," Hoque says.

Jeffrey Cohn, a professor of psychology at the University of Pittsburgh who was not involved in this research, says this work "breaks new ground with its focus on frustration, a fundamental human experience. While pain researchers have identified smiling in the context of expressions of pain, the MIT group may be the first to implicate smiles in expressions of negative emotion."

Cohn adds, "This is very exciting work in computational behavioral science that integrates psychology, computer vision, speech processing and machine learning to generate new knowledge ? with clinical implications." He says this "is an important reminder that not all smiles are positive. There has been a tendency to 'read' enjoyment whenever smiles are found. For human-computer interaction, among other fields and applications, a more nuanced view is needed."

In addition to providing training for people who have difficulty with expressions, the findings may be of interest to marketers, Hoque says. "Just because a customer is smiling, that doesn't necessarily mean they're satisfied," he says. And knowing the difference could be important in gauging how best to respond to the customer, he says: "The underlying meaning behind the smile is crucial."

The analysis could also be useful in creating computers that respond in ways appropriate to the moods of their users. One goal of the research of Affective Computing Group is to "make a computer that's more intelligent and respectful," Hoque says.

The work was supported by Media Lab consortium sponsors and by Procter & Gamble Co.

Harry declares the Constitution is just a ?fig leaf? for the GOP to hide behind

Leave it to Harry Reid to call the Constitution a ?hyper-technical? issue and a ?fig leaf? for Republicans to hide behind.

Since this a day of the week that ends in ?y,? Harry is railing about Republican obstructionism of this bill and that bill, but he seems especially miffed about the blockage of the Violence Against Women Act ? where Congress finds the enumerated power to usurp the police powers of the states to pick and choose which crime victims take precedent is another matter entirely.

On his website, Reid notes both the House and the Senate have passed versions of the reauthorization of the VAWA but the House Republicans refused to take the bills to conference.

Harry Reid on May 22. Is he showing how big the fig leaf is?

?Their excuse ? a hyper-technical budget issue called a blue slip ? isn?t much of a fig leaf to hide their blatant obstruction,? Reid states. ?The truth is Republicans are looking for any excuse to stall or kill this worthy legislation. And American women aren?t fooled.?

The blue slip to which Harry refers is merely the House GOP?s way of throwing a penalty flag on Harry?s Senate version of the bill because it includes a provision to pay for the bill by adding a $30 fee on immigrant visas.

But Article 1, Section 7 of the Constitution?s Origination Clause says, ?All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives ?? So, the Senate version violates the Constitution.

In Federalist Paper No. 58, James Madison explained that this provision was to assure the power to tax resides solely with the representative closest to the people, those representatives who are apportioned by population, not by state.

He wrote:

?The House of Representatives cannot only refuse, but they alone can propose, the supplies requisite for the support of government. They, in a word, hold the purse that powerful instrument by which we behold, in the history of the British Constitution, an infant and humble representation of the people gradually enlarging the sphere of its activity and importance, and finally reducing, as far as it seems to have wished, all the overgrown prerogatives of the other branches of the government. This power over the purse may, in fact, be regarded as the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect every just and salutary measure.?

Michael Franc, writing at National Review Online, notes the VAWA is not the only bill Reid is pushing while circumventing the Origination Clause. There is also the Paying a Fair Share Act of 2012, which basically legislates the Buffett Rule.

?Why let a little thing like the Constitution stand in the way of making sure a red-meat, eat-the-rich proposal like this gets maximum media exposure during an election year?? Franc asks.

As is my custom with most things constitutional, I turned to my handy copy of Seth Lipsky?s ?The Citizens Constitution: An Annotated Guide.?

He notes that the Origination Clause was a major issue at the Constitutional Convention with Elbridge Gerry saying ?taxation & representation are strongly associated in the minds of the people, and they will not agree that any but their immediate representatives shall meddle with their purses.?

Sen. Harry ?Meddle With Their Purses? Reid will have no truck with such hyper-technical language getting in the way of whatever he wants to do.

But, speaking of fig leaves, Lipsky tells us the courts have largely emasculated the Origination Clause, which was intended to make it more difficult and inconvenient to raise revenue, because, well, it made it too difficult and inconvenient to raise revenue.

Lipsky reports the Supreme Court rejected a suit in 1906 involving financing of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad even though the bill originated in the Senate. The court sniffed that ?whatever taxes are imposed are but means to the purposes provided by the act.? And more recent court rulings have allowed Senate bills to stand when the revenue raised is ?incidental.?

When a food safety bill ran into a similar Origination Clause roadblock, a New York Times blogger called it an ?arcane parliamentary mistake? and bemoaned the fact that ?Mr. Reid would have to spend the better part of a week cycling through procedural votes just to get the food safety bill back on the floor.?

Alzheimer's Miracle Cure on the Horizon? - Brisk Elder Law

In today?s world, planning for old age can be a challenge- both financially and legally. Additionally, supporting an elderly loved one who is almost certain to be diagnosed with Alzheimer?s becomes even more troubling.

Are you or someone you love at risk for Alzheimer?s in the future? What if the disease could be ?cured? before it struck? There may be hope on the horizon, as reported in a New York Times article titled, ?New Drug Trial Seeks to Stop Alzheimer?s Before It Starts.?

While nearly two years away from having even preliminary data, researchers have isolated the genetic family bearing the Alzheimer?s blueprint and are working on a new experimental drug that could cure the problem before it strikes millions bearing the offending gene. These breakthroughs take time.

In the meantime, it?s necessary to make financial and legal plans as if the miracle drug won?t come to pass. Accordingly, long-term care financing (e.g., long-term care insurance and/or elder law planning) ought to be considered, along with implementing (or refreshing) your most fundamental legal instruments (e.g., powers of attorney and advance health directives).

As always, consult competent financial and legal counsel before proceeding. This is not a DIY (do-it-yourself) exercise. Too much is at stake.

Military Spouse Appreciation Day Blog Hop

I come from a long line of great military-spouses!? Both of my grandfathers served in the US Army during World War II.? My father was an Air Force pilot for 30 years.? Now my husband is with the Ohio Army National Guard.

Military-wives, in particular, have always been part of my world.? They were the aunts in my life?when my mom's and dad's sisters?lived so far away.? They were the teachers in?the DoD schools I attended.? They were?the laughter I would hear coming from my own mom's?soul when she was with her best of friends.

So here I am a military-spouse in my own right.? The oak tree in the back yard that towers?12-feet high when it started out as less then a foot when we moved in to our first home as newlyweds.? That oak tree represents 11 years of living in the same house!? 11 years of roots.? Clearly, I am not an active duty spouse.? But I have said goodbye to my husband as he deployed to Iraq.? I have spent weekend after weekend, week after week without him as he helped troops deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan.? I have advocated, educated and represented the military family in our non-military community.

My own boys, aged 18, 9, 7 and 21-months (he's our post-deployment oops?baby) are proud military-brats.?? My 18 year old talks very seriously about joining the Army Nurse Corps after college.? His spouse is our future generation of Military-Spouses.? I don't know who she?is yet?but I pray for her every day and those that will walk along side her.?? I pray for her strength, courage and perseverance.

To each of?our military-spouses, past, present & future,?I wish you a very Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day!

One Kind Of Small Business Obama Is Killing - The Dish | By ...

Capitol Hemp is closing its doors for good on August 1, 2012:

And they're not alone:

On May 10, 2012, federal agents raided?the homes and stores of 14 hemp-and-head shop owners in Idaho, seizing water pipes, glasswork, and other wares they believe constitute "drug paraphernalia." ... If such raids are reminiscent of similar actions under George W. Bush, that?s because they are. Despite Obama drug czar Gil Kerlikowske admitting that the country "cannot arrest its way out of the drug problem," the Obama administration is doing its damnedest to try. From?increasing the number of raids on California?s medical-marijuana dispensaries (which are legal under state law) to pushing for bans on sales of cold medicines, Obama is sadly revealing himself as "just another drug warrior" despite admitting to frequent use of illegal substances.?

Sadder still: All this is happening as?a record number of Americans?? including even religious conservatives such as Pat Robertson ? are voicing support for the legalization of marijuana.?

Meanwhile, Brendan Kiley worries about the rise of synthetic drugs - which are legal:

The funny thing is: these "legal highs" may be more dangerous than the old-fashioned, illegal ones. Human beings have thousands of years of experience with coca leaves, cannabis, and opium poppies. We barely even know what mephedrone and naphyrone are, yet we can buy those at the local head shop. That is completely backwards.

His larger point:

As drug-policy expert Sanho Tree pointed out when I interviewed him for the?story on kratom, alcohol prohibition turned a nation of beer and wine drinkers into a nation of liquor drinkers, and "the war on cocaine popularized the poor person?s cocaine, which is crack, and the war on crack popularized the poor person?s crack, which is meth." You want to get rid of crackheads? Make coca leaves legal. You want to get rid of junkies? Make opium-poppy tea legal.

More on marijuana in the nation's capital here, here and here.

Chocolate Ice Cubes! ~ Raw and Vegan Kids Saturday!

This summer, at Raw on $10, Saturdays are for kids!

I think it would be fun to do some raw and vegan recipes for kids. Dishes that are simple enough for them to make mostly on their own, with just a little bit of supervision. Learning about foods, how to make them, where they come from, what's healthy ... it's good to get started young on those things!

So, every Saturday throughout the summer, I'll have some kind of fun and easy to make recipe or a raw and vegan food project.

I'll sometimes enlist the help of my assistants and advisers, Alexandria who is five, and, Ledger, who is four. This is our first recipe and we even made a video. The Chocolate Ice Cubes are vegan but not totally raw. The recipe can easily be made raw by using raw cacao powder and coconut palm crystals, although keep in mind that raw cacao is likely more potent and stimulating than plain cocoa powder.

Chocolate Ice Cubes

makes one batch ~ about $1.50 per batch

  • 3 spoons coconut oil (about $.30)
  • 3 spoons cocoa powder or raw cacao powder (about $.60)
  • 3 spoons powdered sugar or powdered coconut palm crystals (about $.60)
  • 1 dash salt

equipment

Measuring for this recipe ...

A "spoon" is any spoon. You can use a tablespoon or a soup spoon or whatever kind of spoon you have. If you want a lot of chocolate ice cubes, use a big spoon!!
(What's important is that you use equal parts of the first three ingredients!)

Stir together all the ingredients and pour into an ice cube tray. Fill the little ice cube compartments about a half inch deep with chocolate.

Put in the freezer for at least 15 minutes.

Pop chocolates out of ice cube tray and enjoy!!
?
Watch our recipe video and we'll show you how to make chocolate ice cubes ... !!!
