(AP) ? Kathryn Joosten, a character actress best known as the crotchety, nosey Karen McCluskey on "Desperate Housewives" and the president's secretary on "The West Wing," has died. She was 72.

Joosten, who had battled lung cancer for years, died Saturday in Los Angeles, her publicist Nadine Jolson said.

Joosten won two Emmy awards for her portrayal of Mrs. McCluskey, the cranky but loveable senior who kept a close eye on her Wisteria Lane neighbors on "Desperate Housewives." Main Reasons Why A Mobile Car Service Is Much Better Than Usual ...

June 3rd, 2012 by Christy Yeo

Among the worst things which could happen to a car owner is experiencing your car broken just when you are about to set off to go somewhere important. What is even worse is realizing that the nearest automobile repair center is nowhere near your house, and the whole trip necessitates getting towing service. This scenario can get even worse still if you have kids or other matters in your house that you absolutely can?t leave alone while you go look after your car at the repair shop. With this dreadful situation, what does a regular vehicle owner do?

If you have been in the scenario described above, then you are already familiar with the horrors associated with a broken car and also the time-consuming and inconvenient process of repairing it. Nonetheless, there?s an alternative to bringing your car to the auto shop that could make a big difference in your car repair experiences, and this is getting a mobile car service.

Getting a mobile mechanic to repair your car at home offers a lot of benefits that taking your car to a repair center does not offer. Number one among these benefits is convenience, and the rest includes better savings, better communication between you and the mechanic, faster repairs, and finally, far better service.

Of course, acquiring a car mechanic come over to your residence removes a lot of the problems that taking your vehicle to the shop offers. For one, you needn?t hire a towing service any longer, and you also don?t have to fret about bringing young kids along if you cannot leave them in your own home. You don?t have to make complex plans on when to drop off your car or when you can get it. In case you hire a mobile car service, you can easily continue your normal home routine and check in your car?s repair progress every once in awhile.

In contrast, because you will not be shelling out for towing services, you?ll already eliminate a big chunk from your car repair charges. Apart from saving on towing costs, you also get to save on the expense of transport back and forth from the auto shop whenever you go check on your car.

Additionally, because you will be dealing with the repair man himself, there will be better communication between both of you. You can certainly tell him exactly what happened to your car and he can provide you with regular as well as in-depth updates on the repairs that he is doing. Furthermore, due to this direct communication, you can expect to be given much better service. Because the auto mechanic is representing the organization he works for, he will be much more ethical and ready to do what pleases his clients.

Lastly, you can expect that repair of your car will be quicker. It?s because mobile car service providers understand your needs better. In addition to knowing the importance of time to you, they also have to attend to other clients to allow them to fix more cars in one day.

Extreme Parenting or Extreme Stupidity? - Parents - Families.com

by Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger

left

No parent takes delight in seeing his child fail at school. However, most moms and dads don't try to disown their kid when she flunks a test.

It's called being reasonable, rational... sane.

Sadly, some parents don't exercise these gifts and you end up with a story like Tuan Huynh's.

The Pennsylvania dad has been court ordered to move out of his home until he completes a mandatory parenting class, as well as 100 hours of community service. Huynh's punishment is a result of abandoning his 16-year-old daughter outside of a mall because she received a failing grade at school.

According to news reports, in February, Huynh went into a rage when his daughter revealed a poor score on a calculus test. One thing led to another and ultimately, the 47-year-old dad decided it would be best for everyone involved if he forced his daughter to pack her bags and live elsewhere.

Booting a kid out of the only home she has known is demented enough, but Huynh took his craziness a step further by dropping his daughter off 13 miles from the family's residence and telling her to find someone else to take care of her.

Police say the teen wandered outside a local mall for hours before a minister approached her and notified authorities.

Officers eventually took the girl into protective custody, but she didn't go willingly. Reports say the teen refused to identify herself for fear of shaming her father. Police later found her name on some sheet music she packed in her bag.

"She didn't know where she was. She had never been to the area before," Assistant District Attorney Cara McMenamin told news reporters. "She was terrified. She's lucky somebody didn't grab her and abduct her."

On Tuesday, a judge sentenced Huynh to two years of probation and 100 hours of community service. In addition, the dad must attend parenting classes before he is allowed to return to the home where his daughter is now living.

I'm thinking that won't happen anytime soon.

According to court documents, the father expressed no remorse for abandoning his daughter. In fact, the dad actually told the judge that he is free to parent his child how he chooses and would ditch her again if kept failing at school.

Hmm... the last time my daughter did poorly on a test, I helped her study harder for the next one. I don't recall ordering her out of my car near an unfamiliar mall and telling her to find somewhere else to live.

What do you do when your child brings home a bad grade?

UK Newsx.com ? Siena, Italy ? Medieval Lifestyle and Horse Racing

Italy has many well-known journey locations such as Rome. Much less publicized locations such as Siena are even superior.

Sienna

Located about an hour outdoors of Florence, Siena is one of my favorite places in Italy. After you believe gothic architecture and medieval town, you consider of Siena. Built like a fortified metropolis guiding substantial, thick partitions on a modest mountain, Siena oozes background. Automobiles are barred from much with the town, so you may meander down ancient brick alleyways beneath towering wall-to-wall residences.

In Siena, you will come across a peaceful way of lifestyle, two songs schools and only a general feel of what Italy must have already been like in the past. Head for the Piazza del Campo in the heart from the city and seize a seat in a cafe. While you gaze throughout the city, you are able to watch the Duomo Cathedral that towers over the city. In contrast to other metropolitan areas, the cathedral does not contrast using the buildings about it. All of Siena retains the gothic medieval architectural design and you will be challenging pressed to find a better gothic instance in Europe.

The best method to encounter Siena is to merely stay there. Like wine, Siena improves the lengthier you remain. Daily explorations lead to astonishing tiny stores, extremely friendly men and women and also a common experiencing of peace.

Il Palio

Should you prefer slightly action in your journey, Siena has an occasion that rivals any in Europe. The Il Palio bareback horse race about the Piazza del Campo is a sight to become noticed. The entertaining begins nicely ahead of the race when numerous neighborhoods challenge each other. The challenge arrives in the type of bands strolling by way of ?enemy? neighborhoods within the middle from the night and producing an unholy racket. At some point, each and every neighborhood generates a horse and rider for your day with the race. Bareback, the riders race for community pride amongst an definitely screaming crowd of individuals. The running with the bulls has nothing at all on this event.

When you visit Florence though in Italy, take the time for you to spend a few times in Siena. The truth is, blow previous Florence and go quickly to Siena.

Harang helps Dodgers snap 5-game skid

Associated Press Sports

updated 7:20 p.m. ET June 2, 2012

DENVER (AP) - Aaron Harang pitched six strong innings, Bobby Abreu homered for the first time this year and the Los Angeles Dodgers ended a season-worst five-game losing streak with a 6-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.

Andre Ethier and Elian Herrera had two hits and two RBIs each and James Loney also had two hits for the Dodgers.

Michael Cuddyer and Wilin Rosario had RBI doubles and DJ LeMahieu had two hits for the Rockies, who had their five-game win streak snapped.

A day after the Rockies roughed up Los Angeles pitchers for 13 runs on 15 hits, Harang (4-3) held Colorado's suddenly potent offense to one run on four hits.

He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth when he got hot-hitting Carlos Gonzalez to foul out to third and Cuddyer to ground out to second.

Colorado had 53 runs, 71 hits and 13 home runs during its winning streak but had only six hits Saturday. Gonzalez came into the game with six homers and a .577 average over his last six games and went 1 for 4.

The Dodgers took a 3-1 lead with two outs in the second on a two-run single by Herrera. The hit went through the legs of pitcher Juan Nicasio and sent him to the showers with a strained left knee.

Although the ball didn't appear to hit Nicasio, assistant trainer Scott Gehret and manager Jim Tracy went to the mound. After a brief discussion Nicasio left the game in favor of Josh Roenicke.

Nicasio (2-3) has sustained far worse injuries on comebackers. He was hurt last Aug. 5 when a line drive by Washington's Ian Desmond hit him in the head. He underwent surgery to have two pins inserted into his cracked C-1 vertebra and also had a small metal plate attached to the back of his neck.

This time Nicasio was able to walk off the field after allowing three runs, two earned, and four hits in 1 2-3 innings.

Los Angeles made it 4-1 when Ethier drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth.

Abreu's solo homer and Adam Kennedy's RBI single in the sixth gave the Dodgers a 6-1 lead.

LeMahieu led off the seventh with a single and scored on Rosario's double to make it 6-2. Colorado had a chance for more but Gonzalez grounded sharply into a 3-6-3 double play to end the inning.

The Dodgers struck first when Tony Gwynn Jr., who reached on an error to lead off the game, scored on Ethier's single to right.

Dexter Fowler tripled to start the bottom of the first and scored on Cuddyer's two-out double off the center-field wall to tie it 1-all.

NOTES: The Rockies recalled LHP Rex Brothers from Triple-A and optioned RHP Carlos Torres. ... Home plate umpire Chad Fairchild was shaken up when he was hit in the left arm by a foul ball by Gonzalez in the bottom of the first. He was tended to Gehret and had his left forearm wrapped after the inning ended. ... Rockies 3B Jordan Pacheco was held out of the lineup with a sore left quadriceps muscle. ... Dodgers OF Juan Rivera (strained left hamstring) will join the team when it travels to Philadelphia for a four-game series starting Monday.

Advantages of Bowling | Resolve Acne

Bowling can be considered one of the all time favorite sports in the world. Its popularity throughout the history of its evolution has a consistent trend that people seem to adapt and accept. In 1976, about 25 percent of the total population of the United States played the game. By the start of the millennium, the percentage has gone down by about 10 percent because of the changes of interest of many people to different activities. There was a resurgence when bowling alleys realized that they had to modernize their facilities and equipment to keep with the trend of modern technology. There was a total transformation within every facility and with all equipment. Computer generated scoring was one of the futuristic adaptations of the game. There were also improvements in the bowling lanes and pin machines to provide faster setting of the pins in the target area.

Many venues have realized that there was an increase in the number of casual bowlers when they cut the schedules of leagues and shortened their events by a few weeks. More people have time to go bowling because the availability of the lanes was improved. By the start of the new millennium, many people were working less than eight hours a day and this led to the adaptation by bowling alleys to a schedule suitable for employees that wished to enjoy bowling after work. Many people have considered the change of the concept of bowling from a sport to a social activity. Some people see bowling as a recreational or social activity while others see it as a competitive opportunity. People find many advantages when bowling. Playing the sport on a regular basis will enable a person to develop a fitness activity by learning how to balance and coordinate body movements. The bowling executions a person uses provides exercise through walking and swinging of the arms.

It not only provides good body exercise for the arms and back, but the joints, fingers, hips, and legs as well. The muscles limber up when a person bowls on a regular basis, keeping the body in good condition.

Playing Lotto Games | Pennapic Arts and Entertainment

Overall, people who play to win lottery to benefit the people who play consistently. There are many systems of the lot out there. Some of them rely on computerized systems to create, numbers and some other people that use a ball or other physical objects. The possibility is always best to those found in computers and data that are forged random numbers. Involve a number of pseudo-random set of rules described above, after the initial state can be known. Therefore, the results of the same lottery game is new to expect from the system.

The lottery can be fun, engaging and experience the feeling of winning will always be there by your side, just waiting for you are a happy man. But to win, you need a set of rules to help you develop a successful strategy. There are, of course, not quite sure no one is perfect recipe for the lottery, can only afford a couple of tips that extra help when it comes time for you to play to start playing.

Another insight useful is the fact that each depends from the physics of random systems or the internal logic of the formed thereon. Therefore, you can be sure that a system can be predicted to be if you have the original condition and predictable patterns that occur. Play a set of mathematical rules can always count on wining lottery jackpot can be used are available at any time. Some things can not be known with certainty, but if you follow the system will be more likely winners and big.

The first rule is that the regime is to play the lottery game is always more than 5 or 6 basis points, or in some cases even eight figures. This method does not always tilt the odds in favor of your vice versa, but you can win a chance to increase naturally. Each of the lottery system has its own rules the best, depending on the area and how the resulting numbers. In a classical system, where the numbers are drawn from a physical building, you can be sure that the rest can not be changed too. However, if computer systems are built, and has designed a number, after a while ?, and describes how it works, is also reflected in all situations.

Lottery is playing a game of luck, of course. The game is usually the best way to ensure you have the chance to win. If you can not attend, you can not expect to happen to me, always make sure that at least this step is recorded. Also, depending on the environment and how it usually plays, you can get more chance to get out of the question, how to play winning lottery system that worked. No system is completely random out there, and most computers are those that can play with to ensure your success.

The Justin Bieber Workout: Boxing, Running & Eating Healthy ...

A video of Justin Bieber and Mike Tyson boxing is creating quite a buzz around the Web. And it has us wondering what exactly the young singer?s fitness routine is.

Rumors have circulated that as the teen star matures in his career, he seeks out new role models such as Tyson and fellow pop star Usher. With these new friendships come new activities, such as boxing sessions as Tyson?s personal gym.

This seems to fit Bieber?s personality as fitness has always been a part of his life despite a busy schedule. The singer has managed to stay in tip-top shape by making time for his workouts even though the past few years have been a whirlwind of concerts, video shoots, and countless TV appearances promoting his music.

After releasing his first album, Bieber went straight to performing his hits around the world, and was on and off tour for about a year. Globetrotting is just a part of Justin?s life and he has had to make adjustments to accommodate his hectic lifestyle. In order to do so, the star hired personal trainer Dolvett Quince to keep him in shape for his most recent tour; Quince is now a trainer on The Biggest Loser.

Bieber?s fitness routine isn?t far from your average teenager?s. Cardio training is important to the singer, so he runs for 15 to 20 minutes and also practices high intensity interval training (HIIT). Sources say he also loves to run without a shirt on, much to his female fans? delight. Weight training and upper body strength building are two other key elements of Bieber?s routine, and his trainer also stresses the importance of stretching both before and after a workout.

When he isn?t in the gym, the star also enjoys playing sports like basketball, football, and golf with friends to stay in shape.

Eating well is another factor in Bieber?s healthy lifestyle. He can?t eat all the junk food he pleases because it can reportedly affect his voice. By no means does that mean that he eats carrots and celery all day, but the star does enjoy an occasional splurge on junk food. And at just 18 years old, Bieber is still growing and his body needs plenty of nutrients from a healthy diet.

As the world has watched Beiber grow in both his career and stature over the past several years, so have we. And we look forward to seeing how he continues to incorporate healthy habits into his hectic lifestyle. But in the meantime, we can be sure to see Bieber flashing his toned abs to the world in magazine spreads because of his dedication to working out and eating healthy.

LONDON (AP) ? The patriotic bunting is ready, the golden carriage on standby, the boats freshly painted, the shops filled with royal souvenirs.

The normal ebb and flow of British life gives way in the next four days to a series of street parties, flotillas, outdoor concerts and finally the appearance of an elderly great-grandmother on her balcony to wave to her subjects.

Britain is marking Queen Elizabeth II's 60 years on the throne with a four-day holiday weekend of ceremony, symbolism and street parties.

The queen will celebrate Saturday at the Epsom Derby, a highlight of the horseracing calendar, and on Sunday she will lead a 1,000-boat flotilla on the River Thames. Monday's festivities include a pop concert in front of Buckingham Palace with Paul McCartney and Elton John, and festivities climax Tuesday with a religious service, a procession through the streets of London and the royal family's appearance on the palace balcony.

The pageantry is very grand and very British. But at the heart of the Diamond Jubilee celebration is a nearly universal sense of appreciation for the queen, who acceded to the throne in 1952 on the death of her father, King George VI.

Elizabeth was a vibrant young woman of 25 when she became the head of state of a faltering post-war nation. At 86 she remains strong of heart and stout of spirit, refusing to let age slow her pace or dim her smile, which if anything has grown more welcoming over the years.

Winston Churchill was prime minister when she became queen, and David Cameron, who wasn't even born then, is Britain's leader now. Elizabeth herself has no political role. But her royal mystique, the centuries of history she embodies and her own discreet charisma help define the very idea of Britain for the world.

Alan Watson, a member of the House of Lords who has written a book about the queen, said the jubilee is a joyous occasion for many Britons who see the queen as a symbol of stability.

"These 60 years have been years of really dramatic change in the UK, the tectonic plates have moved," he said.

"The country has lost its empire and is no longer in the front rank of power, and I really think that change has been enormously eased by her and what she represents. My feeling is she has enabled change by her reassurance of essential continuity."

When Lord Watson joined the queen at a rain-soaked tree-planting ceremony in Richmond several weeks ago, he said he was struck by her buoyant mood as the Jubilee approached.

"I got the clear feeling that she is really enjoying things," he said. "It was pouring rain, but she really looked radiant, a happy person. I think she feels very content in herself. I think she is satisfied with how the reign has gone."

Elizabeth has weathered shaky times with her children, whose marriages have tended to break apart, and her popularity suffered after the 1997 death of Princess Diana, with some finding her response to the tragedy to be cold and out of touch with public sentiment.

The late princess was an international superstar. And the queen was seen by some as overseeing the royal push to cast her adrift after the breakup of her troubled union with Prince Charles, the heir to the throne.

But all evidence suggests the queen's connection to her subjects has recovered from those blows.

There was overwhelming support for Elizabeth at the last great celebration that focused on her role ? the Golden Jubilee bash that in 2002 marked her 50 years on the throne.

The event is remembered not just for the concerts and the parties but for the spectacle of an estimated 1 million people gathered in front of Buckingham Palace.

Palace officials are hoping this simple show of affection will be repeated on Tuesday when the commemoration climaxes with another balcony appearance.

Not everyone in Britain will be celebrating. The anti-monarchist group Republic plans a riverbank protest as the flotilla goes by on Sunday ? followed by a pub night where royal refuseniks can drown their sorrows.

But royal officials have reason to be optimistic. Newspaper polls this week suggested that affection and appreciation for Elizabeth cut across all ages, social classes and political affiliations.

For many, she is a living link to the challenges and triumphs of World War II, when she was a young princess who helped with the war effort, even learning how to drive and service heavy vehicles with the Auxiliary Transport Service.

Her staying power is impressive. Elizabeth is the oldest person to reign over Britain, and only Queen Victoria, who took the throne at an earlier age, had a longer reign.

It is of course true that some are indifferent or hostile to the monarchy, with its vast inherited wealth and status, but few question the dedication or sincerity of the queen.

"She's done a very good job," said Jean Robson, a London retiree. "She works so very hard. The family's had problems like every family, and she's dealt with them very well."

Robson said she and her family admire the royal family and its longtime role in the nation's life.

"We're very lucky to have them," she said.

The queen, and the royal family, have benefited in the last few years by the newfound maturity of Prince William, who married the former Kate Middleton in a spectacular ceremony last year, and Prince Harry, who has put his partying days largely in the past as he focuses on a military career.

The young princes have stepped up their official duties, at times representing the queen abroad. Their natural flair has given what had been an aging monarchy a badly needed touch of cool.

This effect has been accentuated by Kate, who has brought poise and fashion flair to her new position as the Duchess of Cambridge.

She has won raves for her ability to bring new pizazz to the royals, and her presence at the Jubilee festivities is expected to produce pictures and TV images that will be seen throughout the world.
